40V HP Brushless 21" Self-Propelled Mower
40V HP BRUSHLESS 21" SELF-PROPELLED LAWN MOWER KIT is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 943.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A poor investment and the illusion of "green" I've had my 40v 21" self propelled for about 2 years. It hasn't worked properly since day 1. After about 30 total hours on hold or on the line with their support line, they directed me to take the unit in to their authorized repair center. For the last 7 months it has been out of commission, and the repair shop says they have a bunch of them there waiting for the same part, a faulty blade control motor. But ryobi has them all on back order, so they can't make the repair. So after 90 days, and missing my mower for the whole summer, I'm eligible for a replacement unit since they couldn't make the repair which is stated to be a 7 to 10 day process. Except they're so backed up with faulty units that I'm told it could be another 2 to 3 months before they can replace it. This has been the most aggravating experience, and I can truly say the worst decision I have made as a consumer. I should mention that I have a quarter acre of perfectly flat land, and that the mower could rarely finish the entire yard before dying when it did function. Two of the 40v lithium batteries have gone bad in 2 years. So on top of not functioning, I don't believe that buying one of these products is any more environmentally friendly than a gas mower. With all the plastic, lithium, and freight involved in these, and knowing that they are swamped in wasted or replaced mowers and batteries, I'd venture to say a gas mower that lasts 10 plus years may even be the greener choice in the same window of time knowing what I know now. I like to support American made products when possible, but the quality has to be there. And if you want to go electric, perhaps there are more reliable options out there. Don't make the same mistake.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An Outstanding Self-Propelled Electric Mower This is a really good mower that is a pleasure to use, even for us who don't like to mow. The mowing height is simple and quickly adjusted and the mower folds up for space-saving vertical storage using a small paddle lever. The adjustable walking speed control is a nice feature. The mulching feature does an excellent job of reducing mowed grass or even leaves to tiny bits. A service issue that I encountered was quickly and satisfactorily resolved by Ryobi's service department.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great all season I used this mower all season to mow the grass, and then in the Fall, mulch the many leaves on my lawn. It has worked really well for both tasks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke after one season This lawn mower lasted one season before some electrical motor failed and the blades would not turn on. I took it in for service, but now worried this could be in issue every year. If it breaks down again next Summer, I'm going to ask for my money back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Starts every Time Starts every Time, unlike my last mower that started once a day. Recharge is fast and consistant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do. Not. Buy. Do not buy this mower. I had a Honda for 12 years and never had an issue. I bought this simply because I wanted to store it in the upright position to save space. I have a flat yard with manicured fescue- something the most basic mower should be able to handle no problem. After less than a year the blades won’t spin. Ryobi customer support has been super unhelpful. Every review you read about the poor quality is 100% true. I can’t believe they are still selling these products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blade stopped working Bought this mower 5 months ago and blade stopped working today. Self propel and light work, but blade does not spin. Mower only saw light use at a small suburban home. I would appreciate some direction as to remedy. I have original receipt from Home Depot. This seems to be becoming a common problem. Dread finding warranty service. HELP!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower features I love the mower it’s easy to put together and run, great customer service too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked great until it didn’t. Much like other people, writing reviews, the mower worked great for about 11 months and then just stopped working. At first I thought it was the batteries but it’s not. I pull the handle down, try the mower button and nothing happens. I try the self-propelled function; nothing happens. It’s completely dead. If I’d know it would’ve only lasted this long, I would’ve bought a cheap gas mower.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loved it for 4 months Bought this in may or June and loved the job it did, but like many other reviewers the blade stopped running all of a sudden in October. Almost made it through one season, am stuck looking for some help with this problem. Having trouble finding a place for service. Help!
